Can I install a CID2 cable in a CID1 area if I use CID1 components?

Can I install a CID2 cable in a CID1 area if I use CID1 components? No. The reason for this is that the requirements for the Div. 1 approved cables are significantly different in regard to impact and crush resistance, the method of determining maximum sheath temperature and, for FM, chemical resistance.

The above approach applies to applications in the USA or Canada. One further consideration is, as a requirement of our FM approvals, or other approvals based on the IEEE 515, we must identify and keep records on all heating cables installed in Div. 1 areas. In order to fulfill this requirement, only Div. 1 cable can be provided. This requirement does not apply to Canada.
